READING

The Reading Section

In this section you are given 35 minutes to read 4 passages. In order to do well on this section you are going to need to leave yourself plenty of time to answer all 40 questions on the section.


First

READ the TITLE, and the FIRST PARAGRAPH. 

Second

SKIM THE REST OF THE PASSAGE! This is important! It is best not to waste your time on this section! Unless the passage is an academic essay than READ the concluding paragraph as well, otherwise you are just wasting time because you will have to come back to this part anyways while answering questions. 

WHEN SKIMMING try to remember as best you can WHERE in the passage it talks about different things, this is important for when you are answering questions

Third

Read the question and go read the area of the passage that relates to this passage! This is why you need to remember where the different subjects of the passages are! Only read what pertains to the question! DON'T waste time!!

Fourth

Answer the question! and Repeat!

ADVICE:  ALMOST ALWAYS THERE WILL BE TWO ANSWERS VERY SIMILAR TO EACH OTHER, IT IS USUALLY ONE OF THESE TWO! IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA FIND WHICH TWO ANSWERS ARE THE MOST SIMILAR AND CHOOSE ONE! THE OTHER TWO ARE CALLED DISTRACTERS!
